Ernie Sims III is a retired eight year NFL Linebacker who was a first-round draft pick to the Detroit Lions in 2006, after being named a 2005 Butkus Award Semi-Finalist at Florida State University and #1 ranked player by Rivals.com at North Florida Christian High School in Tallahassee, Florida. In 2014, he returned to his hometown of Tallahassee, after his career in the NFL to giveback to the community he was raised in.
Ernie’s passion and desire to give back to his community and to touch each kids life was built of the foundation that his father, Ernie Sims Jr. and mother, Alice B. Sims laid while he was a young boy.
Through his parents non-profit organization, the WAY Ministries and the Capital City Christian Cruisers Track Club, Ernie observed his parents impact thousands of youth lives to propel them into successful citizens of today.
Following those footsteps, he founded the Big HITS Foundation to empower and strengthen youth, families and communities to develop the body, mind and spirit for success. Since 2008, Big HITS has been offering community enrichment events and recently began added ongoing youth programs in Leon County, Florida that presents opportunities for youth and young adults to succeed both on the field but more importantly off the field. The Big HITS Foundation shares his passion and values to impact and change the individual lives in our community.
The focal point of Ernie’s life is his relationship with God and his wife. He has been married to Brooke Sims for 7 years and they have two handsome young boys Ernie IV and Major.
